PreCleanse - The Secret to Healthy Skin

PreCleanse - The Secret to Healthy Skin

One of the easiest and most effective ways to improve our skin is with regular, thorough cleansing. It’s not difficult to clean our skin, yet so many of us seem to neglect this fundamental step. When we consider what’s sitting on the skin – think dirt, oils and dead skin, environmental pollution, long stay make-up and sunscreens – how can this step be overlooked?

Double cleanse Your Way to Healthy Skin for Life

Double cleansing is the secret to healthy skin. Logically two cleanses are better than one when it comes to achieving a clean skin, but what takes your cleanse to an entire new level is cleansing first with a pre-cleansing oil or balm and then with a skin specific cleanser.

The Power of Pre Cleansing

Oil or balm cleansers are the gateway to ultra clean skin. This is because they’re a magnet for all oil-based debris on the skin. They melt away the layers of long-stay and waterproof make-up, excess oils, sunscreens and pollutants, without disturbing the skins protective barrier. Simply leaving behind zero make-up or residue with zero irritation.

Dirty is Damaging

If we neglect our cleansing routine, then we will indefinitely pay for it. As a result of build-up on the skin, expect dull, rough skin, increased dehydration, congestion and breakouts, skin sensitisation and even premature skin ageing.

Double cleansing has a plethora of benefits when it comes to having healthy skin. By removing build up on the skin’s surface and within our pores, not only do we prevent a whole heap of skin challenges, but it also means better absorption of our toners, serums and moisturisers. Skin will be clearer, smoother and more radiant.

The Dermalogica Double Cleanse

Using a pre-cleanse oil or balm is simple. Massage onto a dry face and neck, then add water to make a milky emulsion before rinsing away. Not only will your skin feel ultra clean, but it will be left feeling softer and more hydrated too.

For a normal to oily skin, Dermalogica’s original PreCleanse oil works best. Alternatively, for a dehydrated to dry skin, or for cleansing on the go, PreCleanse Balm is your best option.

After pre-cleansing your skin, the next step is to cleanse with a water-based cleanser that’s suited to your own individual skin type, challenges and consistency preferences. The second cleanse will clean the skin itself and within the pores, whilst targeting your skin.

We tend to spend only seconds cleaning our skin, a quick rub round with your cleanser and a splash off with water. But being such a key component in the quest for healthy, glowing skin, we really need to invest a little longer. Anywhere between a minute or two will make an impact and ideally, clean your skin both a.m. and p.m. Even though we haven’t applied our makeup or sunscreen first thing in the morning, dirt, oil and dead skin still builds up overnight. And be mindful not to forget to cleanse into the hair line and around the ears as these are areas prone to congestion.
